Wimbledon Tennis Day 3 Picks 2018 (July 4th)

When you least expect it life can put everything into perspective.

Most of what we do on a day to day basis really doesn't have a major impact on our lives, and especially not to the level where it is something we need to moan about.

For most we have food on the table, a roof over our heads and hopefully our health and that really should be good enough to enjoy our time, but it is only when things happen beyond our control that we really do understand that we should be happier all around.

It is a tough moment for me in my personal life at the moment, but one that I am hoping will improve in the days ahead.

With that in mind the Tennis Picks are really way down on my list of what is important in life.

This is a bit of fun essentially, but of course we all want to find the winning selections more than the losing ones. Ultimately it isn't something that should have a huge impact on our lives and the minute it does it is clearly time to step back and take some time out.

And it really makes me wonder what kind of trash person would think it is acceptable to abuse these players if things don't go as expected.

Then again social media has highlighted how many idiots there are in the world- just try to enjoy life and not be one of those!

On Wednesday we move into the Second Round at Wimbledon and the top half of the men's draw and the bottom half of the women's draw will be back in action. At the time of writing there haven't been a lot of big upsets, but the matches get more difficult for the big names and that could change in the days ahead.

I will put down my analysis for a number of the selections for Wednesday's tennis at Wimbledon and I will add the remaining Picks to the 'MY PICKS' section below.

Roger Federer - 8.5 games v Lukas Lacko: After the performance in Halle where Roger Federer was not at his best, I thought his First Round match would be something of a challenge for him. Instead the Number 1 Seed was able to breeze past Dusan Lajovic without being tested and it was such a comfortable win that the biggest talking point was the new clothing sponsor Federer was sporting.

Whether he plays in Nike or whether he plays in Uniqlo won't matter too much to Federer once he takes to the court, but it was a little strange to see him without the 'RF' sponsorship that Nike had set up for him.

Federer was still in dominant form and he moves into what looks like a very comfortable Second Round match against Lukas Lacko who is a decent grass court player but one who doesn't have a lot of weapons with which he can hurt the defending Champion. The biggest goal for Lacko may be improving on his two previous matches against Federer which has seen him win five games at the Australian Open in 2011 and eight games at the French Open in 2014.

You would think the grass courts would give Lacko every chance to surpass the eight games won in Paris if only because Federer's return game has been a little erratic on the surface. A single break for Lacko could make it very difficult for Federer to cover this number, but my feeling is that Lacko's style is going to make Federer very relaxed and confident with every ball that comes his way.

Lacko does have some decent grass court pedigree as I have mentioned, but I am not sure he has enough to challenge the best player on this surface. The key will be to make a fast start and perhaps stay with Federer as long as possible, but Lacko has a poor record against top 20 Ranked opponents in Grand Slam events through his career as this level of opponent is too much for him.

He will be aided by the grass, but Federer looked pretty locked in on Monday and I think he is going to get into enough rallies to force Lacko to play above his usual level. I think Lacko could do that at times as he is pretty talented, but eventually the pressure will tell and Federer may record another pretty straight-forward win against the Slovakian in a different Grand Slam event.
