ATP World Tour Finals Day 2 Picks (November 10)

It was a good start for Roger Federer and Kei Nishikori on Sunday and the two winners will now play one another on Tuesday afternoon with a place in the Semi Final up for grabs. While Nishikori played some very good tennis, the home fans won't have been happy to have seen Andy Murray fall to defeat and that means he is in a 'must win' situation against Milos Raonic in a couple of days time.

Now it is time for the players in Group A to get their event underway including the winner of the tournament last season and my tip for the title this week, Novak Djokovic.

Tomas Berdych v Stan Wawrinka: Tomas Berdych has a terrible record against Stan Wawrinka which includes losing their last four matches and one of those losses came here in London in the Group last season.

However, Berdych has definitely been in the better form than Wawrinka who has won just one match since the Davis Cup Semi Final in September and I am not sure how he can pick himself up against the elite of men's tennis.

Some will point out that Wawrinka came into London in terrible form in 2013 after his run to the US Open Semi Final, but he has been worse this season and looks like a player that might want to see this season end sooner than later. That won't be music to the ears of Swiss fans as the Davis Cup Final is still a couple of weeks away, but it is hard to see how Wawrinka turns his form so quickly.

Mentally there will be some burden on Berdych considering he has lost 7 of 8 matches against Wawrinka and those emotions could be his biggest downfall. However, the importance of winning this match shouldn't be lost on either man to keep them focused and I will look for Berdych to grind his way to the win.

Novak Djokovic - 4.5 games v Marin Cilic: Marin Cilic won the title in Moscow, but decided to pull out of the remaining events before the Tour Finals and there are some concerns about the Croatian's ability to serve in this one.

Rumours suggest his shoulder has been causing a problem when it comes to the serve and facing someone like Novak Djokovic who is fresh off a title win and protecting a long unbeaten run on the indoor hard courts is a tough test. Djokovic has also won the last two Tour Finals and is still to secure his World Number 1 Ranking so there is plenty of motivation on his side of the court.

The tough battles with Cilic this season as well as the fact that the Croatian won the last Grand Slam will also keep Djokovic focused in a match that he would usually have won fairly comfortably before Cilic's improved belief.

Cilic's ability to move into the Semi Final will likely be decided by matches against Tomas Berdych and Stan Wawrinka, while he is also going to need time to get used to the conditions in London and Novak Djokovic can come through with a routine 64, 63 win.
