NBA Playoffs 2026- First Round Game 5-7 (Monday 27th April-Sunday 3rd May)

The First Round Series have provided plenty of drama and there are at least two Game 6s to be played in the Eastern Conference, while teams like the Denver Nuggets and Houston Rockets will be looking to push Series at least that far, even from 1-3 deficits to overcome.

Injuries are a crucial factor at this time of the season and we have seen a number of those really changing the narrative not only around the First Round Series to be played, but potentially much further into the Playoffs.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are reeling with both Anthony Edwards and Donte DiVincenzo expected to miss significant time and they will be looking to find a way past the Denver Nuggets. That likely means a Second Round Series against the San Antonio Spurs, who have just had Victor Wembanyama return from a concussion,

It might be the kind of situation that would suit the Spurs- if the Timberwolves can upset the Nuggets and move through, it is a more comfortable Series anyway, but a shorthanded Minnesota would be something San Antonio are really comfortable in facing before a potential Western Conference Finals against Oklahoma City Thunder,

And if a healthier Los Angeles Lakers team moves into the Second Round, the Western Conference Bracket may actually shift in favour of the San Antonio Spurs.

Over in the Eastern Conference, the Boston Celtics are doing what they do best and look to be cruising through to the Second Round.

They have a big chance to finish the First Round Series in Game 5, while the likes of the Detroit Pistons, New York Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers are all due to play a Game 6 at the minimum.

And that is if the Pistons are going to find a way to turn around a 1-2 deficit and make it through to the next Round.

Selections from the remainder of the First Round Series will be placed here as the Series come to a close, but those will begin on Tuesday after the Denver Nuggets were set as a big favourite to beat the Minnesota Timberwolves that have been ravaged by injury.

However, my concern is that the role players have a couple of big efforts in them to find a way to help the Timberwolves move through this Series.

If they are blown out, Minnesota might be set at a tempting line to cover as what is expected to be a home underdog in Game 6, but that is going to be answered following the Monday Game 4.

Tuesday 28th April
Philadelphia 76ers @ Boston Celtics Game 5 Pick: The return of Joel Embiid will have given the Philadelphia 76ers a lift and there was nothing wrong with his performance in Game 4.

Unfortunately for Embiid and his team, the Boston Celtics have not changed the approach taken and that means bludgeoning the 76ers from the three point distance.

Over the last few seasons, it has become clear that the Celtics will be happy to live and die by the three pointer with the full belief in the shooters and making those plays often enough to win games and, ultimately, Series. That looks unlikely to change and this Game 5 really comes down to whether you believe the 76ers can either restrict the Boston Celtics from finding their rhythm or, more likely, whether Philadelphia can find enough shots to keep up.

Nothing we have seen from this Series suggests anything other than another comfortable win for the Boston Celtics and they can come through Game 5 with another big win and a cover of the spread set.

Portland Trail Blazers @ San Antonio Spurs Game 5 Pick: Victor Wembanyama was back, but the San Antonio Spurs perhaps lost some focus in the first half of Game 4 as they looked to take control of this First Round Series.

There must have been words exchanged at half time because the Spurs came out with a lot more intensity in the second half and they crushed the Portland Trail Blazers at both ends of the court.

Home teams have tended to dominate Game 5s when it comes to the wins, but the cover rate is below 50%.

However, the Spurs are the second team liked in that spot and that is because they look like they are now settled into the post-season and the Portland Trail Blazers may struggle to be competitive enough at both ends of the court.

Respect has to be given to the Trail Blazers for the intensity, grit and determination taken into this season, the Play In Tournament and into this Series, but they are short of the required quality to match this deep Spurs team. Experience will give Portland plenty to take into the next season, but this one could come to a close as soon as Tuesday and the San Antonio Spurs may just end up pulling away as they have in the last couple of road wins to take control of this Series and for a place in the Western Conference Second Round.

Sunday 3rd May
Orlando Magic @ Detroit Pistons Game 7 Pick: You do have to wonder if the Orlando Magic are going to regret going absolutely ice-cold from the field in Game 6 of this First Round Series just when it looked like they were going to eliminate the top Seed in the Eastern Conference. This side of the bracket could have become wide open if the Magic and Toronto Raptors are able to upset higher Seeds, but both have to win a Game 7 on the road.

A couple of minutes into the Third Quarter of Game 6 at home, the Orlando Magic led the Detroit Pistons by 24 points.

For whatever reason, Orlando began to struggle and the fightback from the Detroit Pistons must have overwhelmed them as a 42-10 run turned things around.

The Magic finished with just 79 points in Game 6 having scored 62 early into the Third Quarter and the key in this one is making the adjustments to slow down the flow if things begin to work against them again. They have already won on the road at the Detroit Pistons in this Series, while one of the defeats was only by a 7 point margin and that should give the Magic some confidence, even if they have to shake off what happened in the last game.

For the Number 1 Seed, the situation will feel much more manageable having overcome staring into the abyss in Game 6 and using the home fans is so important. The Pistons have some Playoff experience and they will certainly take heart in the fact that the favourites have tended to win Game 7 in the First Round of the Playoffs.

Franz Wagner's absence will favour the Pistons, who have won both games he has missed in the First Round Series, but Orlando have to believe they showed enough physicality to give the Detroit Pistons trouble.

In saying all that, the collapse in Game 6 is the one that can stick with a team for a long time and that does make it harder to trust the Orlando Magic with little time to recover mentally and physically.

All of the pressure is on the Detroit Pistons, even now, and that could help the road team who many will believe have missed their best chance to eliminate this top Seed.

The Pistons will likely find a way to win, but the Magic are being given a lot of points in this Game 7 and the underdog is 11-8-1 against the spread in recent games in this situation.

Toronto Raptors @ Cleveland Cavaliers Game 7 Pick: The manner of the opening two defeats in this First Round Series suggested the higher Seeds were right in identifying the Toronto Raptors as one of the weaker teams that could be faced in the opening Playoff Series.

The Cleveland Cavaliers may certainly have believed that, but it is the Raptors who have won three of the next four games to force a Game 7.

They were without Brandon Ingram in Game 6, but that did not stop Toronto and they forced Overtime and ultimately outlasted Cleveland to hold serve and force this Game 7 on the road.

If they want to progress, the Raptors have to be the first in this Series to win a road game.

Confidence won't be an issue, even if Ingram is unable to suit up again, and the Toronto Raptors have to believe they have shown enough about how well they are matching up in the Series. They have fewer adjustments to make as we reach the decider in this Series and all of the pressure is on the Cleveland Cavaliers, which is something that the Raptors have to look to exploit.

After signing Donovan Mitchell to a big contract and then trading for James Harden, it is clear that the Cavaliers are all in on this season and losing in the First Round of the Playoffs will lead to massive questions to answer. Both players have had moments, but you can feel the pressure that is building on both and that is also leading to more pressure on the role players to step up.

Being at home should give the Cavaliers enough of an advantage to find a way through, but they are giving plenty of points to a team that have the momentum.

Like the other Game 7 being played on Sunday, the Cavaliers will know favourites have tended to win these deciders in First Round Series, but they are just 8-11-1 against the spread.

After the two opening 'blowouts', the Raptors have covered in the last four in a row and they can do that again in Game 7 even if they are ultimately eliminated.

NBA Playoffs 2025- Conference Finals Picks Game 1-7 (Tuesday 20th May-Tuesday 2nd June)

The top Seed in the Western Conference may have needed all seven games, but what matters is that the Oklahoma City Thunder are still on course to win the NBA Championship for the first time.

They arrived in Oklahoma City having previously been the Seattle Supersonics, who had won a NBA Championship, but the Thunder have been close in their current form without taking home all of the honours. With a team as young as they are, this could be the start of the dynasty, although the other three teams still chasing a ring will have something to say about that.

And all of the other three can be considered as something of a surprise.

The Indiana Pacers and Minnesota Timberwolves may feel that is a harsh assessment considering both played in the Conference Finals in 2024 and have clearly learned valuable lessons from their experiences. Both knocked off injury hit opponents in five games in the Second Round so should be well rested and they will use what happened in 2024 to try and move a step closer to the NBA Championship in 2025.

Neither of those teams have won a NBA Championship before either, and it has been a long time since the Indiana Pacers made the NBA Finals.

So that leaves the final place for my New York Knicks who are playing in the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2000 and who are looking to reach the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999. This is a big market franchise that have not won the NBA Championship since 1973, but fans may feel this is about as good a chance as they have had in many a year with both of the top Seeds in the Eastern Conference eliminated.

As with previous Playoff threads, Games 1-4 will be placed in this one and any Picks from Games 5-7 will be in a new thread to keep things as tidy as possible.

After a couple of strong years, it has been a tough Playoff run in 2025 and may need an almost perfect run to turn things around from now until the end of the season. There has been some frustration to the Picks selected,  but it happens and the focus has to be on having as good a run as possible in the Conference Finals and see the lay of the land at the end of that.

NBA Playoffs 2025- Conference Finals Game 1-4 (May 20th-27th)

Tuesday 20th May
Minnesota Timberwolves @ Oklahoma City Thunder Game 1 Pick: If the regular season is anything to go by, the Western Conference Finals could be an incredibly competitive Series.

The Minnesota Timberwolves and Oklahoma City Thunder split four regular season games and they were largely competitive affairs- the Thunder had two wins by 7 and 8 points respectively, while the Timberwolves won a game by 15 points and the other by just 3 points after Overtime.

Having a few more days of rest could be important for the Timberwolves after easing past the Golden State Warriors in five games. On the other side, the Oklahoma City Thunder just completed a Game 7 win over the Denver Nuggets and will have one day to rest and prepare for this opening game of the Western Conference Finals, which is far from ideal for any team, even one as good as the Thunder.

A positive for the Number 1 Seed is that they were not really taxed in Game 7 of the Second Round Series and that will have allowed key players to earn some rest. The blowout win over the Denver Nuggets also reminded the rest of the NBA of the depth that Oklahoma City can lean on as they bid to reach the NBA Finals.

Experience can still be a factor and that is where the Timberwolves may be able to lean on 2024 and use that disappointing Western Conference Finals defeat to the Dallas Mavericks to inspire better in 2025. They were the hosts of those Conference Finals, which would have hurt Minnesota even more, but getting back here twelve months later as the Number 6 Seed in the West will just remind the players of how good they actually are.

Winning Game 7 and then moving into a new Series is a tough spot for the Thunder to be in, but even more so when you think of the lack of rest they are getting.

They will also be in a tough spot with the spread- Conference Finals favourites being asked to lay at least five points are now 1-12 against the spread across the last two Playoffs and even with the depth the Thunder have, it could be a big ask on limited rest to be ready to push past this number set for Game 1.

With Anthony Edwards and Julius Randle looking good, the Timberwolves have been a good team to back with the points during this Playoff run and they could begin with a cover, if not the outright upset to take away home court. They have matched up well with the Thunder throughout the regular season and Minnesota may have been anticipating this opponent for the Western Conference Finals and so being underprepared is not really going to be an excuse that they can lean on.

Opposing the Thunder and their ability to blowout teams is not an easy decision, but the spot looks a good one for the Minnesota Timberwolves to keep this one very competitive, and especially with this many points being given to them.

Wednesday 21st May
Indiana Pacers @ New York Knicks Game 1 Pick: Considering the Eastern Conference Finals were set on Friday evening and the Western Conference Finals on Sunday, you think it would have made more sense for the former to get underway first. Instead the Indiana Pacers and New York Knicks will meet in the post-season for a second season in a row, but with even more on the line than when they met in 2024.

Last year the teams met in the Second Round and it was for the place in the Eastern Conference Finals with the injury hit New York Knicks having nothing left in Game 7.

This time the Knicks are looking much healthier and they have just beaten the defending Champions Boston Celtics in six games and New York's expectations have been raised significantly. It has been over fifty years since the New York Knicks last won the NBA Championship, and twenty-six years since they last competed in the NBA Finals, but the fans have seen the top two Seeds dumped out and the Knicks will be hosting the Eastern Conference Finals.

There will be a lot of respect for the Indiana Pacers, not only for the Playoff defeat to this team last season, but for the way the Pacers have seen off the Milwaukee Bucks and Cleveland Cavaliers for the loss of just two games. Over the last four months of the regular season, the Pacers were playing about as well as any team, but they have been satisfied going under the radar.

Depth on the Pacers roster has been key and they have made strong starts to each of the last two Series by winning the first two games to take a serious grip of those Series. In the last Round they upset the Cavaliers, the Number 1 Seed, twice on the road and the Indiana Pacers have a team that will push the tempo and not be afraid to give the ball to the hot hand.

Tyrese Haliburton will be heading to Madison Square Garden expecting to be the focus of the attention for the New York Knicks fans, but that may suit him if it allows his team-mates to flourish. The Pacers have shown that winning on the road is not something they are afraid of doing after beating Cleveland in all three road games in the Second Round and Indiana are a very dangerous opponent.

Confidence should not be an issue for the New York Knicks after crushing the Boston Celtics in Game 6 at Madison Square Garden and the team are so much healthier than when losing to the Pacers last season. They have shown grit to come through tough moments in the Series wins over both the Celtics and Detroit Pistons, while New York did win two of the three regular season games with the Indiana Pacers.

In the Second Round last year, the New York Knicks won the opening two games of the Series before injuries saw them worn down with four losses in the next five games to be downed in seven. There will be an appreciation of the fact that the Pacers have shown a physical style to break down the last two opponents, while an up-tempo Indiana approach has just made it tough to keep up with them on the scoreboard.

Picking a Game 1 winner is not easy on the spread- the Pacers look to be getting enough points to keep this competitive, but the Knicks did win the opening two games of that PlayOff Series last year.

Instead it may be wise to pick Game 1 to go 'over' the total set- this is a number that would have been covered in the last two regular season games between the teams and missed by just a Field Goal in the first. In the Playoff Series played last year, three of the four games played at Madison Square Garden went 'over' the total and the teams have shown enough Offensive power to believe this one will do the same to open the 2025 Eastern Conference Finals.

With the pace that Indiana use, there should be plenty of turnovers and transitional baskets, which can move this game into a position to finish with enough points to cover what is a big number on paper.

Friday 23rd May
Indiana Pacers @ New York Knicks Game 2 Pick: The 2025 NBA Playoffs have featured plenty of games where huge leads have been wasted and comebacks have been frequent.

Even with that in mind, the New York Knicks were stunned in Game 1 on Wednesday night when leading the Indiana Pacers by 17 Points in the Fourth Quarter and eventually being beaten in Overtime. In the last twenty-seven years, 1414 times a team has led by at least 9 points into the final minute of a Playoff Game and all of them had won, until the Indiana Pacers became the first to overcome monumental odds.

This means the fans are going to be needed to be fired up and right behind the New York Knicks as they bid to avoid falling 0-2 behind in the Eastern Conference Finals before having to head to Indiana for two games. There will be a real disappointment within the Knicks locker room, but they cannot ignore the fact that they were able to do much of what they would have wanted Offensively and can be more effective as long as Jalen Brunson can avoid foul trouble for the second game in a row.

New York have already shown plenty of resolve in this Playoff run and they can bounce back, even if the Indiana Pacers deserve a lot of respect for the way they have performed. The Pacers are forcing teams to play how they want to play and ultimately Indiana have shown off the depth to wear down those who face them.

Tyrese Haliburton made some huge shots, but was really well supported by Aaron Nesmith in the fightback and upset. Doing that for a second time in a row on the road will be challenging and teams that have lost games have tended to recover in the next game during recent Conference Finals.

This is a big spread considering the Indiana Offensive capabilities, but the Knicks have to believe they can be more consistent when trying to hold onto a big lead. Some of the players feel they lost some of the focus when looking to close out Game 1 and the situation should mean that is not going to happen again and this time the Knicks can recover and cover the spread set to level up the Eastern Conference Finals.

Saturday 24th May
Oklahoma City Thunder @ Minnesota Timberwolves Game 3 Pick: There are still six games from which the Minnesota Timberwolves need four wins if they are going to be playing in the NBA Finals. but the pressure begins in Game 3. Twice in a row, a competitive first half was replaced by a second half in which the Timberwolves struggled and they are now 2-0 down in the Series.

The NBA remains the only US Sport in which a Playoff has not been lost when a team has moved into a 3-0 lead and that is the prospect that the Minnesota Timberwolves have to face.

It would be tough to beat any opponent from that position, but to try and beat the Number 1 Seed Oklahoma City Thunder who have looked right amongst the elite over the last couple of seasons is going to be that much more of a mountain to climb.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has just been awarded the regular season MVP award and he has been in strong form in the Western Conference Finals, but also being well backed by some of the team-mates around him. Perhaps most importantly is the fact that the Oklahoma City Thunder feel like they are wearing down the Timberwolves with their Defensive scheme and intensity.

Turnovers are becoming very important for the Thunder, although you have to factor in how much more difficult it will be when playing on the road. They are not the Number 1 Seed for no reason though and Oklahoma City have won some tough games already on the road, while the momentum is with them with teams leading 2-0 having a 4-1 record against the spread in the last five times this situation has come up in the Western Conference.

Minnesota can expect Julius Randle to have a stronger game after an underwhelming Game 2 and the role players should be better at home. Anthony Edwards tried to put the team on his back, but he will need support and the Timberwolves can comfort themselves from the fact that teams that have suffered blowout losses in Game 2 have bounced back in Game 3 in the recent Conference Finals played.

It will still need something special from the hosts to do that and the Thunder look to have all of the answers right now.

The expectation has to be this will be more competitive right through to the back end of the Fourth Quarter, but the Thunder have shown their ability to win clutch games during this Playoff run and can do the same here.

Small road favourites have been on a poor run in the Conference Finals, but so have big favourites and that did not stop the Oklahoma City Thunder covering twice in this Series already.

Sunday 25th May
New York Knicks @ Indiana Pacers Game 3 Pick: When you blow a game like the New York Knicks did in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals, there is a pressure to bounce back immediately. That pressure is only intensified if you are hosting the first two games of a Series, but the Knicks were not able to make enough stops in the second half of Game 2 and all of a sudden things have gone pear shaped in Gotham.

The Eastern Conference Finals shifts to Indiana for two games with the Pacers once again 2-0 ahead, just as they were in the Second Round upset of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

All credit has to be given to the Pacers- they continued to fight in Game 1 to produce a historic Playoff comeback, while they looked the stronger team in the second half in Game 2 as they held off the New York Knicks to take a stranglehold of this Series.

However, in saying all of that, Head Coach Rick Carlisle is extremely experienced and he is sure to be reminding his players that this Series could easily be 2-0 to the New York Knicks with a fractionally different bounce of the ball. As much as the Pacers will feel pretty happy with the Offensive production, Indiana will also know they have had issues stopping the New York Knicks and so this Eastern Conference Finals still feels alive.

Much like the Minnesota Timberwolves, the pressure is also on the New York Knicks to avoid having to become the first team in NBA history to win a Playoff Series from 0-3 behind. They are trying to overcome recent history where the team leading 2-0 in the Conference Finals has covered in 80% of the last five Game 3s played, while the Knicks have to make some adjustments to see if they can do anything to cool the Indiana shooters down.

Karl-Anthony Towns being left on the bench in the Fourth Quarter of Game 2 was not a good look for a player who has come up short in big Playoff moments in his career. He will need to bounce back on Sunday if Mitchell Robinson has any kind of restriction around the ankle he seemed to roll in Game 2 and this looks to be a tough test for New York, where expectations have grown massively since upsetting the Boston Celtics in the Second Round.

Game 2 ended a single point below the total line set and that does mean that games in the Conference Finals that have been decided by single digits have been followed up by the 'under' producing a 21-12 winning record. It has given some pause for thought, but the absence or restriction of Robinson should make it that much more comfortable for Indiana to score points and the Knicks are going to have to keep up.

One day of rest between games is perhaps another factor, but these teams are still pushing the pace and backing them to score at least one more point combined in Game 3 compared with Game 2 looks the right play.

Monday 26th May
Oklahoma City Thunder @ Minnesota Timberwolves Game 4 Pick: Well, that escalated quickly!

After back to back dominant wins to open the Western Conference Finals, the Oklahoma City Thunder looked to have all of the momentum in the Series ahead of Game 3. However, the Minnesota Timberwolves came out with a huge amount of intensity and thumped the Thunder early and often and the game was never really close just minutes after tip off.

The Timberwolves are going to be feeling that much better ahead of Game 4 as they look to level the Western Conference Finals before having to take another shot at winning in Oklahoma City.

There is still some pressure on Minnesota who would be facing an elimination game later this week if they are beaten at home and they have to expect a much more aggressive and focused Number 1 Seed that played here on Saturday. It will mean the role players need to continue shooting the ball that much better at home than they have on the road, which has been a feature of Minnesota's Playoff run, and they will be hoping Julius Randle has had his one and only poor game in the Western Conference Finals.

It was a poor game from the Oklahoma City Thunder, perhaps their worst of the season, and the starters were all given the Fourth Quarter off. A reaction is going to be needed from a young team that has had their issues on the road, but the Thunder have shown their capabilities all season and will likely be that much more focused after being embarrassed on a national stage.

They should have a bit more Defensive intensity, which was severely lacking in Game 3, but this could be another of the Western Conference Finals games to end up going 'over' the line set.

Three point shooting has been important and the road shooting woes of both teams has to be a concern, but the tempo may see teams heading to the Free Throw line and that can help.

Minnesota did not shoot the ball well at all in Game 1, but have looked a bit better in each of the last two and they can keep that momentum going. We may be ready to see the closest game of the Western Conference Finals so far with so much on the line for both teams and there should be enough quality shooting shown to at least move past this total set.

Tuesday 27th May
New York Knicks @ Indiana Pacers Game 4 Pick: They have been making history throughout this Playoff run and the New York Knicks became the first to overcome 20 point deficits to win games three times in a row in one post-season.

It has been a difficult Playoff to negotiate with so many games ending in crazy fashion and Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals was no different.

With Karl-Anthony Towns and Jalen Brunson in serious foul trouble and with the Indiana Pacers coasting, the Eastern Conference Finals looked set to be all but over with the Number 4 Seed about to move into a 3-0 lead. The decision was made to bench Brunson, but KAT took things over and there was enough push from the bench players to help the New York Knicks overcome the big deficit and ultimately half the deficit in the Series.

A big Game 4 is coming up and the New York Knicks will be hoping they have the momentum to get things levelled up before they head back to Madison Square Garden. They will want to avoid having to dig out of a big hole again and that means making a much faster, consistent start having been hit hard by the Indiana Pacers in the first half.

There is a key moment in Game 3 which may help the New York Knicks- Aaron Nesmith rolled his ankle and being the most consistent Defensive player capable of slowing down Jalen Brunson, it would be a big loss if he is limited. He did not look right after that moment in the Fourth Quarter and that is expected to be a factor that hurts Indiana on both sides of the court.

Of course the Pacers will feel pretty sick with the way they lost their lead in Game 3- the approach felt off in the second half and they lost all rhythm on their shooting. It was the worst display from three point range and so the Pacers may feel they can show enough to bounce back, as they have throughout this Playoff run.

The Knicks are feisty, but so are the Pacers and this is a team that has lost Game 3 in both previous Series and won the next time out on their way to a close in five.

In recent Conference Finals, Game 4 has leaned heavily towards the host as long as they are not facing an elimination game. That will encourage the Indiana Pacers and this has also been a Round of the post-season when teams have had a solid record bouncing back from losses.

It may only be 2-2 against the spread this year, but is now up to 31-17-1 against the spread across the last forty-nine Conference Finals games.

We should have another competitive game in what has been a competitive Eastern Conference Finals, but the Indiana Pacers may do just enough to win and cover ahead of a return to Gotham where Game 5 is set to take place.

Wednesday 28th May
Minnesota Timberwolves @ Oklahoma City Thunder Game 5 Pick: They came out looking to make a statement in Game 4, which they did, but perhaps most impressive about the Oklahoma City Thunder is the way they managed to take every big haymaker thrown at them by the Minnesota Timberwolves.

They are still a young team and so it would have been a challenge, especially on the road, but the Thunder kept making the big plays at the big moments and ultimately that was enough to hold on for a victory and, most importantly, a 3-1 lead in the Western Conference Finals.

The first of three close out opportunities is in front of the home fans with both teams heading back to Oklahoma City and you do have to wonder if the Timberwolves have much left in the tank. They did almost everything right in the two games played at home, but the team could not make the stops needed and, for a second season in a row, the Timberwolves look to be coming up one Round short of the NBA Finals.

No one will be giving up just yet and the Timberwolves may look to make a couple of adjustments in their bid to keep this Series alive and bring it back home.

However, it cannot be ignored about how much the Minnesota Timberwolves put into the last game.

The bench produced historically strong numbers and the NBA Playoffs have long proven that role players find things that much tougher on the road than they do when playing at home. So it may be asking a lot of those bench players to make the same impact again, while the Oklahoma City Thunder have been much more solid at home throughout this post-season run.

After seeing what happened in Game 3, the Thunder may be more prepared to deal with what should be an early onslaught from the desperate Timberwolves. Oklahoma City have shown they have players who can step up though and they will take confidence from the fact that both home wins over Minnesota have been very comfortable in the Western Conference Finals.

Favourites and the hosts have both been trending very well in Game 5 of the recent Conference Finals and those teams are 14-4 and 13-5 against the spread respectively.

And those teams looking to close a Series who are favoured by at least 4.5 points have turned in a 10-3 record against the spread in the last thirteen Conference Finals games with that situation set.

With that all considered, the Oklahoma City may weather the early storm and grind down the belief of the Minnesota Timberwolves through the first three Quarters. The pumped up home crowd can then push the hosts home with a win and a cover as they look to reach the NBA Finals for the first time since 2012.

Thursday 29th May
The direction of travel for both Conference Finals suggests we are potentially not going to see any Game 6s, never mind two, and that means a decision has been made to keep all of the selections in this one thread.

It may not be needed beyond Thursday if the Timberwolves and Knicks cannot keep themselves alive, but there are still close out games to be won by Oklahoma City and Indiana.

Indiana Pacers @ New York Knicks Game 5 Pick: Halfway through the Third Quarter of Game 4, it felt like the Indiana Pacers had a dominant lead having controlled much of the night. However, the scoreboard told a different story and the New York Knicks were doing what they have been throughout the post-season and that is hanging around and then looking to strike late.

However, this time the Pacers made sure they largely kept the Knicks at arm's length thanks to pushing New York into early foul trouble in the Fourth Quarter and having some of the star players make some big plays.

Tyrese Haliburton will be receiving most of the praise having avoided giving up a single turnover, but adding 32 Points, 15 Assists, 12 Rebounds and 4 Steals to that performance. He said he would be much better than Game 3 and Haliburton was all that and more as the Indiana Pacers take a grip of the Eastern Conference Finals.

The tempo has been tough to deal with and the Pacers have closed out the last two Series in five games and have an opportunity to do that again as they look for a third win at Madison Square Garden.

New York will need the home fans to be loud and get firmly behind them and they are in a 'good' 3-1 situation having avoided going 3-0 down. That has been a situation from which no team has ever recovered in the NBA Playoffs, but there have been a small amount of teams that have managed to come back from a 3-1 deficit to win a Series.

Only thirteen teams have managed to recover, but eight of those have been in a position where they are hosting two of the last three games and that is the same for the Knicks. Keeping out of foul trouble is key, while it sounds like Karl-Anthony Towns has avoided a serious knee injury that may have ruled him out until next season.

Adjustments to the starting lineup could be made again, but the Knicks are in a pressurised situation and simply have not played as well at Madison Square Garden as they would have wanted under Playoff conditions. It makes it tough to believe in them having lost Game 4, but New York have shown they can hurt this Indiana Pacers team if they can control the turnovers.

Recent trends in the Conference Finals points to the hosts, the favourites and the team that lost Game 4 as being the one that will produce the best record against the spread in Game 5. Those numbers are 13-5, 14-4 and 12-6 respectively against the spread in recent years, but the Indiana Pacers have to be respected with the momentum built up and the way they have managed previous Series in this Playoff run.

Instead it may be better to look for this game to finish 'over' the total points line set and that is largely down to the tempo both teams are playing with- the Knicks are being forced to play at Indiana's speed and that has led to fouls as teams look to break out, while also seeing quick movement of the ball opening up shooting lanes.

It is impossible to expect this Game 5 to have a First Quarter like the one we saw on Tuesday, but the teams are still scoring heavily.

And it should be noted that the last eight Game 5s that featured a close out spot, seven have finished surpassing the total and this could follow that trend with what we have seen from the Eastern Conference Finals so far.

Saturday 31st May
New York Knicks @ Indiana Pacers Game 6 Pick: The opening few minutes of Game 5 set the tempo for the Indiana Pacers and it was very difficult to move past what had been a sloppy start.

They did hang around for a while and were in a threatening range going into the Fourth Quarter, but the turnovers killed the hopes of the Pacers as they looked to close out the Eastern Conference Finals. It did not help at all that Tyrese Haliburton fell from the historical heights reached in Game 4 to be a non-factor in Game 5 and the entire supporting cast will be critical of themselves for failing to match the intensity of the desperate hosts.

Pascal Siakam was involved in a tetchy discussion with a local reporter at the end of Game 5 after admitting him and his team-mates had not played as 'hard' as the New York Knicks, but the Pacers will want to bury this performance as soon as possible. They have already made it clear that they will be much better in Game 6 when getting the chance to close the Eastern Conference Finals at home and the expectation is that Haliburton and the role players will feel much more comfortable being back in home surroundings.

That alone is not going to be enough to beat the New York Knicks if the latter feel they have finally found the formula to slow this Indiana team down. In two of the last three games, the Knicks have held them to below 101 points and Game 5 was the first time in the post-season that Indiana failed to register triple digits.

A lot went right for the Knicks in Game 5- the bench were spectacular and Jalen Brunson displayed some Defensive grit that has been missing and is one of the criticisms that are often hurled towards him. Karl-Anthony Towns showed he is capable of playing through his knee issues and Mitchell Robinson proved to be a menace around the boards, but putting that all together again will not be easy.

The Knicks will be well aware that the Defensive side of the court is where they can really generate their success having found decent match ups the other way. New York will also be looking to win the turnover battle and get out in transition to really put the pressure on Indiana, who will be very keen to avoid another Game 7 at Madison Square Garden.

You have to figure the Pacers are much better all around having allowed the Knicks to do what they want on Thursday and they will certainly want to be a bit quicker with the ball. Too many possessions were getting down to the final seconds and that has not been the winning formula for Indiana who want to push the tempo and wear down opponents.

In recent years, teams that have had an opportunity to close the Conference Finals in Game 6 have been very good against the spread and the lean has to be with the Indiana Pacers, despite the underperformance in Game 5.

However, the over is 8-5 in the last thirteen Conference Finals Game 6s that have been played and the Pacers are expected to bounce back after the poor outing on Thursday. The Knicks have shown they can produce Offensively, even if their wins have been behind strong Defensive performances, and the line has dropped from the last game, which makes the over more appealing to back here than picking a side.

NBA Playoffs 2025- Second Round Picks Game 5-7 (Tuesday 13th May-Tuesday 20th May)

This has been a really difficult Second Round to negotiate, but it has not been a week in which there has been a lot of luck behind the selections either.

Whether it is some questionable late officiating, or teams blowing monster leads, it has been a Second Round where the NBA product has really been in the limelight and without necessarily interesting viewers as much as it should.

Living, or dying, by the three point shot has become such a feature of the sport, but there are times when it has produced truly ugly performances. On Sunday the Thunder and Nuggets combined to hit 2/33 three pointers taken in a horrible first half and you can see why ratings are down across the board when games are all played in very similar ways.

It also means relying on shooters to perform and that makes the NBA Picks that much more difficult to negotiate and it has been a real down period during this Playoff run.

Every Series is going to have a Game 5 to be played, so the Conference Finals are set to start next week, and we could see at least one upset through the Second Round after the Cleveland Cavaliers fell into a 1-3 hole.

The Oklahoma City Thunder may also be in some danger at 2-2 with the 2023 Champions Denver, although the Thunder have looked the better team and have got home advantage back following a split of two games hosted by the Nuggets.

NBA Playoffs 2025- Second Round Picks Game 5-7 (May 13th-20th)

Tuesday 13th May
Indiana Pacers @ Cleveland Cavaliers Game 5 Pick: Just when you think you have an idea of where this Series is heading, the Cleveland Cavaliers came out and produced an embarrassing first half effort.

They had dominated the previous two games, albeit having to settle for a split, and the Cavaliers looked to have momentum with the injured trio of Darius Garland, De'Andre Hunter and Evan Mobley back in the rotation.

None of those players covered themselves in glory and the task looks to have become even greater for the Cleveland Cavaliers after Donovan Mitchell was forced to miss the second half of Game 4. It has been Mitchell keeping the Number 1 Seed from completely unravelling, but without his Offensive firepower, Game 4 got away from the Cavaliers and they are now on the brink of elimination.

Returning home may give the team a boost, but the Cavaliers lost both games played here in the Series and all eyes are on Donovan Mitchell and whether he will be able to suit up.

The MRI will take place on Monday to determine his availability and it will be that much tougher for the Cavaliers if Donovan Mitchell is forced to sit out.

After a couple of poorer outings, the Indiana Pacers regained control of the Series by making the necessary adjustments and they continue to operated as a dangerous Offensive outfit. Spreading the ball around and exploiting the holes in the Defensive scheme helped the Pacers dominate from the opening tip on Sunday evening and they will have little fear of trying to win another road game.

Turnovers were critical in the win on Sunday and it may be asking too much for the Cleveland Cavaliers to cover this mark, especially if Donovan Mitchell is limited at best.

Favourites have not had the best time covering in Game 5 of the Second Round in recent years and those being asked to lay at least 5.5 points are just 11-17 against the spread in this situation.

Teams bouncing back from heavy losses have tended to play well in Game 5, but the Cleveland Cavaliers have been hit hard throughout this Series and they may have to battle right to the wire to simply win, with the cover looking that much tougher to achieve.

Denver Nuggets @ Oklahoma City Thunder Game 5 Pick: Are there fatigue issues at play in this Series?

Playing in Denver is always tough, but back to back games hosted by the Nuggets and the early start for the Game 4 clash all factored into the performance of the two teams. There is a bit more rest time before Game 5, which is played back in Oklahoma City, and the top Seed in the Western Conference showed they can win 'clutch' games just as much as they can blow teams away.

This could be a pivotal moment for the Thunder who have to be very happy with how they are performing Defensively, especially with room for improvement on the Offensive side of the court. They have not found it easy against this Championship-hardened Denver team and aside from the Game 2 blowout, it has been an Offensive struggle for the Thunder.

They can thank their Defensive intensity for levelling up this Series and Oklahoma City have to be excited with the way they have controlled and contained Nikola Jokic. You are never going to shut him down, but the Thunder are forcing turnovers and not allowing Jokic to feel any kind of comfort on the court, which is leading to the Serb to push a little too hard.

Denver know they need Nikola Jokic at his best with the others around him contributing in fits and spots, but not showing the consistency that may be needed to win this Series.

The under has been the play in the last two games as the accumulation of basketball has built up and that may be the case again in Game 5.

You can never tell when the Oklahoma City Thunder are ready to produce an Offensive masterclass, but it has been a tough Series for the top Seed. Memories of 2024 are perhaps weighing them down a little bit too and both Defensive units will feel they can put enough stops on the board to give their team an opportunity of winning.

The total number has dipped significantly from Game 3, but it may not have gone far enough to avoid a third straight 'under' from coming through.

Wednesday 14th May
New York Knicks @ Boston Celtics Game 5 Pick: No one can ever enjoy seeing an athlete go down with an injury and Jayson Tatum's MRI is going to determine how long the top Boston Celtics player is going to be missing. Not many expect him back for the Playoffs, never mind this Series, but the clearly suffering Tatum could be missing for several months if the injury is nearly as serious as it looked.

The Boston Celtics blew yet another big lead in the second half as they fell to 3-1 behind in this Second Round Series and the defending Champions return home looking to stave off elimination.

Being able to do that without Jayson Tatum is going to be extremely challenging, especially after Tatum was putting together the best performance in the Series in Game 4 and all of the pressure is on his team-mates. They did win eight of ten regular season games that were missed by Tatum and Boston also earned a win over Orlando in the post-season without him, but this is a much sterner test and the Celtics have to be much, much better Defensively if they are going to at least force a Game 6 back at Madison Square Garden.

That was the talk in the Boston locker room having failed to make any kind of stand in the second half of the Game 4 loss and allowing the New York Knicks to have their best Offensive performance of the Second Round by some distance. Losing Jayson Tatum will mean adjustments need to be made on this side of the court having given up too many Offensive Rebounds in Game 4 and the Boston Celtics have to use the energy of the home crowd to try and avoid becoming the latest defending Champion that has failed to reach the Conference Finals in the following season.

New York will feel they have the chance to close the Series as long as they still within touching distance of the Celtics going into the Fourth Quarter.

Clutch play has been the key for the Knicks throughout the Playoffs, but they will just have to be careful about thinking too far ahead or believing they have knocked the fight out of the Celtics, especially with Jayson Tatum expected to be sidelined.

Credit has to be given to the Knicks for fighting back as they have, but it does mean they have been at least 14 points behind in each of the four games played in the Second Round. They will accept that the Boston Celtics can get streaky, but the Knicks arrive here knowing that the favourite has struggled to cover the spread in Game 5 of the Second Round in recent years.

Hosts set as big favourites have had their issues, but the spread is down considerably from Game 1 and 2 after Tatum's injury. This has to be something that the Boston Celtics take inspiration from as they look to keep the Series alive and there remains a feeling that the Celtics will be in a position to have a big lead at some point in Game 5.

They have not been able to close the Knicks down, but you have to believe Boston will double down on the Defensive intensity in this one back at home. The Celtics have not allowed New York to score more than 100 points through the first three games of the Series (in regulation anyway) and the defending Champions may have one last big effort left in them.

Teams that have lost by at least 7 points in Game 4 have bounced back with an 18-6 record against the spread in the last twenty-four occasions that has happened and this Boston team is still good enough to force one more game at Madison Square Garden.

Golden State Warriors @ Minnesota Timberwolves Game 5 Pick: As soon as Steph Curry left Game 1 with a hamstring issue, the Series took a major shift in favour of the Minnesota Timberwolves. They may have lost the opening game, even with Curry playing just 13 minutes, but Minnesota have been the much better team in the last three games and now stand one win away from a return to the Western Conference Finals.

Draymond Green spoke about not wanting to rush Steph Curry back and instead for the Golden State Warriors to fight for as long as needed before their best player can return to the rotation.

There has been nothing wrong with the effort being put in by the Warriors, but without Curry, the Offensive side of the court has been a real struggle.

The final scoreboard has looked close in the last couple of games, but Minnesota Timberwolves had a 20 point lead in Game 4 moving into the Fourth Quarter and they were never in danger of dropping any of the last three games. Unlike Golden State, the team are looking healthy and in rhythm and the Timberwolves will be looking to close out another veteran, Championship team in five games having done the same to LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers in the First Round.

Being back at home to close the show gives Minnesota the edge and they have been much more comfortable than the Golden State Warriors on both sides of the court. Adjustments made in the second half in Game 4 saw the Timberwolves take complete control of the Series and it is very difficult to know what kind of changes Golden State Head Coach Steve Kerr can make now.

Minnesota just need to clean up some of the turnovers that were allowed in Game 4 and doing that should put them in a position to win this one in a similar manner as to how they crushed Golden State here in Game 2.

On that day, the Timberwolves showed off their depth and they will be keen to avoid having to go back out on the road and instead prepare for the Western Conference Finals. The other Second Round Series is heading for at least six games, so it is a good chance for Minnesota to earn some rest and they might have too much for the Warriors again.

You can never completely rule out the capabilities of a team with the experience that Golden State have, but it feels a tall task without Steph Curry and that has been evident through the last three games.

Thursday 15th May
Oklahoma City Thunder @ Denver Nuggets Game 6 Pick: It has been a real battle of a Second Round Series with the Oklahoma City Thunder trying to show how much they have learnt from their exit in this Round of the Playoffs twelve months ago. With some of the top Eastern Conference teams struggling, a real opportunity has opened up for those in the Western Conference and the Thunder have long looked the team best equipped to win a Championship.

Proving that on the court is always the challenge and the Thunder are being given everything they can handle by the 2023 Champions Denver Nuggets, although the younger Oklahoma City team may feel they have broken the back of the Series with the pivotal Game 5 win.

That makes it back to back wins for the Thunder to take a 3-2 lead, but it is also the manner in which they were able to win Game 5 that feels very important. They were down double digits in the Third Quarter and as many as 8 points behind with less than eight minutes remaining in the Fourth Quarter, while the Thunder then closed with a strong run to show they can come up trumps in the clutch for a second game in a row.

Oklahoma City have shown a real confidence in their depth and you do have to wonder how much the Denver Nuggets have left, even as they prepare to host Game 6 of the Series.

Having struggled at times in the Series, Nikola Jokic produced a massive game for the Nuggets with 44 points scored and 15 boards brought in, but the Thunder were happy to restrict those around the Serb. Jamal Murray played his part, but Aaron Gordon, Michael Porter Jr, Christian Braun and Russell Westbrook were a combined 11/39 from the field with 27 points scored and all are going to need to be a lot better if the Nuggets are going to be able to force a Game 7 back in Oklahoma City.

The lack of rest and recovery between games makes that challenging and the two teams may not be as strong as they were Offensively in the last game. Even then, the total points came up short of the line set and we could see something similar in Game 6.

The last fourteen Game 6s played in the Second Round have finished 10-4 in favour of the 'under', while Denver may take some encouragement from the way they have been pushing the Thunder in the last three games. Stronger Defensive effort may be needed to slow down the three point efforts from the Number 1 Seed, which proved to be very important to the final outcome in Game 5, and we could see a bit more fatigue built up in this one.

It can only aid the chances of this Game 6 finishing below the total points line set and that is the play for a second straight time in this Series.

Friday 16th May
The Second Round of the Playoffs are coming to a close and it has been a frustrating Round for the NBA Picks.

It really hasn't helped that a meaningless bucket at the end of another Minnesota-Golden State game has turned a winning selection into a push or a losing selection. The numbers could have been considerably different with some late drama being avoided, but it is what it is and we have to focus on the two Series that are still being played with the Indiana Pacers and Minnesota Timberwolves waiting in the Conference Finals.

Boston Celtics @ New York Knicks Game 6 Pick: It should not have come as a great surprise that the defending Champions Boston Celtics had a big response to falling 3-1 down in this Second Round Series and knowing that star player Jayson Tatum has a long recovery time in front of him.

Being at home would have helped the team rally together, but they now have to travel to Madison Square Garden for Game 6 on Friday evening and forcing a 'win or go home' game back at the TD Garden is going to be a huge challenge.

There was a lot to like from Game 5 with the likes of Jaylen Brown and Derrick White helping the team open quickly.

However, the spark really came from Luke Kornet from the bench who had 10 points and 9 Rebouns, while adding 7 Blocks that really got the crowd into the game. It is the kind of impact that players can produce in the Playoffs when playing at home, but the test for Kornet is going to be backing that up in a hostile environment.

There were other big contributors on the night as the Celtics completed their blowout, but now we will see how much the defending Champions really believe in their capabilities of going much further without Jayson Tatum.

New York will not be panicking with two more shots to close out the Series, although it does feel important to try and close out a Playoff Series at home for the first time this century. The Knicks had actually kept things very close in the first half and looked primed to strike, but Jalen Brunson produced five fouls in the Third Quarter and was gone in the Fourth Quarter, while the Knicks also had Karl-Anthony Towns on the bench for long stretches.

Players like OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges struggled in Game 5, but they will feel much more comfortable in the home setting and that should help the Knicks. Keeping out of foul trouble is also very important for the Number 3 Seed who know they will be hosting the Indiana Pacers in a revenge Series in the Eastern Conference Finals if they can beat the Celtics.

Looking too far ahead is not something to you come to expect from the Coaching staff of the Knicks and this is a team that will want to try and avoid being down double digits again. They have shown their ability to fight back, but a Tatum-less Boston team should be more manageable for the New York Knicks to deal with now that some of the emotion has been used up.

Madison Square Garden can create some pressure on the home team when the expectations are high, as they will be on Friday, but it does feel like the Celtics role players will have a step back and that will afford the Knicks the opportunity to move through to the Eastern Conference Finals.

Sunday 18th May
Denver Nuggets @ Oklahoma City Thunder Game 7 Pick: The late regular season firing of Michael Malone raised eyebrows, but those involved in the decision making already felt justified when the Denver Nuggets came through a Game 7 success in the First Round of the Playoffs.

That does not mean the 2023 Champions would have been happy just to be here and they have played with a genuine belief that they could beat the Number 1 Seed in the Western Conference.

Game 6 saw the Nuggets put together a solid performance having lost the last two games in the Second Round Series and they have forced this elimination game opportunity. With the way the Playoffs have been shaking out, the Nuggets may feel another Championship opportunity will open up if they can upset the odds on Sunday and the team will head back to Oklahoma City with a real confidence around them.

Aaron Gordon pulled up in the Fourth Quarter, but felt pretty confident that the hamstring issue will be dealt with and he will be ready to go. The Nuggets need everyone if they are going beat the Oklahoma City Thunder, but they will be playing with two days of rest, which is important for a veteran team, and that should also be enough time for Jamal Murray to come through the illness that almost ruled him out of Game 6 on Thursday.

There is plenty of pressure on the young Oklahoma City Thunder and they need a couple of players to come out of a relative slump as they bid to work their way into the Western Conference Finals. Another Second Round defeat in the post-season would be tough to swallow and that does build pressure around a team that missed the first close out opportunity that was available to them.

Adjustments can be made with two days between games, and the Thunder have shown they can come through tough moments to win important games. We may need to see all of that again if they are going to match expectations and surpass the Playoff run of 2024, but it may prove to be another game in which the Oklahoma City Thunder are pushed all the way.

One blowout has been recorded by the Thunder, but the rest of this Series has been incredibly competitive and that may not change.

The last twelve Second Round Series that have had a Game 7 has seen the Game 6 winner go 10-2 against the spread, while the favourite is just 4-8 against the spread. The scoring came thick and fast early in Game 6, which contributed to a relatively comfortable 'over', but Game 7s have tended to be tighter affairs and that makes the points being given to the Denver Nuggets all the more appealing.

Avoiding getting into a hole when the Thunder are rolling is key, but enough has been seen from the Nuggets to believe they can keep this competitive and have a late opportunity to perhaps even upset the odds outright.

NBA Playoffs 2025- Second Round Picks Game 1-4 (Sunday 4th May-Monday 12th May)

The top four Seeds in the Eastern Conference have made it through to the Second Round of the Playoffs and they have done in largely serene fashion, which means the next Round of the post-season can begin on Sunday.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have underlined their status as the favourite to win the NBA Championship after breezing past the Memphis Grizzlies in the First Round, but they continue to wait and see who they will face in the Second Round. That will be decided in a Game 7 winner takes all contest between the Denver Nuggets and LA Clippers and Game 1 of the Second Round will begin on Tuesday.

Another Western Conference First Round Series that needs a Game 7 to determine a winner is the one between the Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors and that has allowed the Minnesota Timberwolves to earn plenty of rest.

The Timberwolves have impressed by crushing the Los Angeles Lakers in five games and the momentum of the last two months suggests Minnesota may be able to reach the Western Conference Finals for a second season in a row. No matter who they play in the Second Round, Minnesota will be expecting a tougher challenge than they had in the First Round though and they will be hoping the layoff has not slowed any momentum or disrupted any rhythm that has been put together.

Much like the First Round, the idea is to split the Second Round Picks into a couple of threads with Games 1-4 covered here and the remaining games placed in another thread.

This is more for the sake of keeping the posts a little easier to read and Picks will be placed in the thread throughout the next several days.

NBA Playoffs Second Round Picks Games 1-4 (May 4th-12th)

Sunday 4th May
Indiana Pacers @ Cleveland Cavaliers Game 1 Pick: The Indiana Pacers moved past the Milwaukee Bucks in the First Round of the Playoffs and a chippy Series ended with some controversy after Tyrese Haliburton's father entered the court to taunt Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Instead of focusing on the big comeback to close the Series, the talk after the 4-1 Series win over the Bucks was about that controversy and it has led to John Haliburton being banned from attending games.

Tyrese Haliburton has said his father 'will be fine' and the Indiana Pacers will be looking to turn the page as they begin a Second Round Series with the Number 1 Seed in the Eastern Conference. Last year the Pacers were able to upset the New York Knicks to take their place in the Eastern Conference Finals and they are set as the underdog against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Darius Garland is listed as Questionable for the Cavaliers, but this is a roster with a solid depth about them and Cleveland crushed the Miami Heat in a sweep through the First Round. The two road wins were really impressive and Cleveland will be confident that they can get the better of a Pacers team that won the regular season series between the teams 3-1.

However, the two games played in April came during a time when the Pacers were trying to close out a top four Seed and when the Cavaliers were resting players and ensuring everyone was ready to go in the Playoffs. Both of those wins were in games where the Pacers had been set as big favourites and that is not the case when they meet in Game 1 of this Series.

The Pacers can take confidence from the fact they split two regular season games in which they had been set as the considerable underdog. They also showed the depth of their own rotation and the willingness to move the ball around and trusting every player to make the shots needed if they are in a position to do so.

This will make Indiana dangerous, but they will also be well aware that the Cleveland Cavaliers are a much tougher test than the Milwaukee Bucks, who had been hit by injury and who were perhaps a bit too predictable all in all. The Cavaliers are unlikely to let Indiana off the hook as the Milwaukee Bucks did and Cleveland look like a team that have been well balanced at both ends of the court.

Cleveland will be encouraged by their three point shooting and the way the Indiana Pacers were defending that mark in the First Round Series. They have also shown they can dominate games in different ways and the Cavaliers may be ready to come out and make an early statement in this Series.

Hosts have made a strong start in Game 1 of the Second Round of the NBA Playoffs and have an 18-13-1 record against the spread over the last nine years.

Big home favourites have given a poor return to backers since 2016, but favourites that have been asked to lay 6 or more points are 15-9 against the spread in Game 1 of the Second Round. The Cleveland Cavaliers will note what the Indiana Pacers did in the Playoffs last season and that respect should have the home team coming out with focus and drive and they can cover this line.

Monday 5th May
New York Knicks @ Boston Celtics Game 1 Pick: If it was not for the upset in the Eastern Conference Second Round, the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks would have met in the Eastern Conference Finals in 2024.

Twelve months on the rivals are facing one another for the first time in the post-season in over a decade and this time a place in the Eastern Conference Finals is on the line.

The Boston Celtics have picked up some form as we have drawn to a close in the regular season and the defending Champions are well aware of what they need to do in order to win Series at this time of the season. They came through a physical First Round Series with a 4-1 win over the Orlando Magic, and most Boston fans will simply appreciate the fact that players have managed to escape serious injury.

Jrue Holiday picked up a hamstring issue which saw him miss the last three games of the First Round win, but closing the Series when Boston did has given him ample time to rest and recover. He is expected to be active for Game 1 and that could be a huge bonus considering how well Holiday has done when he has been asked to guard Jalen Brunson.

The New York Knicks needed a big shot from Brunson to close out the Detroit Pistons in six games and that will have given them confidence considering the number of games won when there was little between them. Showing they can win those kind of games is a huge boost, but the pressure is on the New York Knicks to make the adjustments against an opponent that has regularly dominated them in recent meetings.

All four of the regular season games were won by the Boston Celtics and three of those were pretty comfortable. The schemes run by the Knicks have allowed the Boston Celtics to find their rhythm shooting the three ball and even the blueprint laid out by the Orlando Magic may not be one that New York can attempt to replicate.

The only positive for the Knicks is that they should have won the most recent of the regular season games, but that was played at Madison Square Garden and opening at TD Garden is a much different challenge.

Hosts have been really strong in Game 1 of the Second Round of the Playoffs and this is the spot in which even big home favourites have tended to cover. With Jrue Holiday back, the Boston Celtics can harass the New York Knicks and make an early statement in the Series by securing a big home win to take a 1-0 lead.

Denver Nuggets @ Oklahoma City Thunder Game 1 Pick: The Denver Nuggets rallied to beat the LA Clippers in the First Round of the Playoffs and won the vital Game 7 at home. Many within the organisation feel they have already justified the decision to fire Head Coach Michael Malone with just days of the regular season remaining, but the fans have been spoiled by the NBA Championship win of 2023 and expectations remain big.

They have to face the Number 1 Seed in the Western Conference when the Second Round begins and the Denver Nuggets will be confident from the fact they managed to split four regular season games with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

However, it may be asking a lot of the Denver Nuggets to steal away home court advantage immediately and that is largely down to the historical numbers suggesting that those that have won an eliminator in the previous Round have struggled to be as competitive as they would like in Game 1 of the next Series.

Ultimately that is not a massive surprise when you think of the emotions needed to win in a pressurised spot, and the fact that a team has had to dig deep to come through a Series. The experience of the Denver Nuggets will help and they may feel the Oklahoma City Thunder are going to be out of some rhythm having swept through the First Round and having had plenty of time off.

The Playoff experiences of twelve months ago will help the Thunder in their preparation, although finding a way to close down Nikola Jokic may be something that is beyond their capabilities in this Series. Instead the decision may be made to prevent anyone from offering him support and the fast tempo used by the Thunder has to give them an advantage if the Nuggets are feeling some of the knocks from the First Round win over the LA Clippers.

This is a big spread, but hosts in Game 1 of the Second Round have a solid record at covering the bigger numbers set for them as favourites. Four regular season games were split, but the two Thunder wins were by double digits and they may just have the youthful energy to pull clear in this opening game.

Tuesday 6th May
Indiana Pacers @ Cleveland Cavaliers Game 2 Pick: If there was any doubt about the qualities that the Indiana Pacers bring into this Eastern Conference Second Round Series, those have quickly been put to rest with a solid Game 1 win. Stealing away home court will have most Pacers fans feeling like they have already seen their team enjoy a successful business trip, but Indiana's players will want more as they prepare for Game 2.

All of the adjustments have to be made by the Number 1 Seed Cleveland Cavaliers- they were not nearly intense enough Defensively as they allowed the Indiana Pacers to dominate from the three point range, while the continued absence of Darius Garland becomes a bigger worry.

Better efficiency is needed from the Cavaliers who never recovered from the early and late punches that were delivered by the Indiana Pacers. The Number 4 Seed were allowed to make the runs to just keep the Cavaliers are arm's length and they did enough to maintain control of their emotions when Cleveland did make a run to move in front in the Fourth Quarter.

Both teams will be looking to make the Defensive adjustments to just stay in control and this total points line may be a bit too high.

Everyone is expecting the Cleveland Cavaliers to bounce back and the spread has shifted into double digits after the Game 1 loss, but the under might be the better play considering what the Indiana Pacers were able to do in the upset win. It feels very important for the Cleveland Cavaliers to be much better Defensively if they are going to get back on track in the Series and that may be the focus for the team, which can contribute to this total line ending up being too high.

The under play had been really good when the line was sat at 227.5 points or higher, but Game 1 surpassed went 'over' to snap that run. However, games that have been decided by less than 11 points have trended heavily in favour of the under play next time out, while the expectation of seeing the Cleveland Cavaliers perform better overall should contribute to a lower scoring game.

These two have matched up well Offensively all season, which makes the play a bit more dangerous, but this is Playoff Basketball now and Game 2 looks like being a tighter affair with the two teams looking to show a bit more Defensive resilience in order to secure the win.

Golden State Warriors @ Minnesota Timberwolves Game 1 Pick: All credit has to be given to the veterans on the Golden State Warriors roster, especially for their second half performances, but it was the role players who had put the team in a strong position in Game 7 in the First Round win over the Houston Rockets.

That laid the platform for success as the Warriors made sure they recovered from dropping back to back games and having to travel to Houston for Game 7. Adjustments were made by an experienced group of players and a strong Coaching staff and that has pushed the Golden State Warriors into a position where many will feel they can progress through the Second Round and reach yet another Western Conference Finals.

Game 1 of the Second Round looks to be a tough spot to be in- the Warriors have only had one day of rest and historically it has not been an ideal spot for teams coming through a seven game battle. While they have invested emotions and effort, the Minnesota Timberwolves have been resting and preparing for another Second Round Series and the team has to be respected having reached the Western Conference Finals last year.

As the regular season wound down, the Minnesota Timberwolves were looking stronger and stronger as the roster finally found some rhythm. That made them a dangerous team entering the Playoff and the Timberwolves backed that up by crushing the Los Angeles Lakers in five games, although they will be expecting a much tougher challenge.

In four regular season games played, the Golden State Warriors won three, but the last was played in mid-January and both teams are pretty different now.

Another close Series is expected, but hosts in Game 1 are the right team to back in recent years and that is further strengthened by the fact that the Golden State Warriors are coming into the Series after a Game 7 win. Hosts being asked to lay at least 6 points have a very strong record in Game 1 of the Second Round of the Playoffs and the Minnesota Timberwolves may just have a bit more energy when it comes down to the crunch and that should see them win and cover this number set for the opener.

Wednesday 7th May
New York Knicks @ Boston Celtics Game 2 Pick: There will be a lot of questions asked inside the Boston Celtics locker room after blowing Game 1 in the manner they did and losing home court advantage puts the team under some pressure when the second game at the TD Garden is played on Wednesday.

After building a 20 point lead with eighteen minutes left, the Boston Celtics should have really been changing the game plan and focusing on keeping the Knicks under pressure.

Instead the Celtics fell in love with the three point shot in Game 1 and put up a Playoff record sixty attempts, which is shocking considering the position they had got into in the middle of the Third Quarter. With the top three New York Knicks players in foul trouble, the plan should have been to attack those players and get to the rim, but twenty shots were taken in the Third Quarter and nineteen of them from the three point range.

Nothing would have been said if those shots were landing, but the Celtics only hit 25% from outside of the arc and ultimately that gave the Knicks a lifeline.

Credit has to be given to New York for kicking open the door and it was a superb run through the end of the Third Quarter and into the Fourth Quarter that saw them not only erase the 20 point deficit, but move into a position to win. Things would have felt pretty disappointing for the Knicks if they had still finished Game 1 being behind in the Series, but New York maintained the momentum into Overtime and showed plenty of character to beat the Boston Celtics for the first time.

All of the pressure feels like it is going to be on the home team who cannot really afford to head to Madison Square Garden 2-0 behind in this Second Round Series. The defending Champions are likely to have taken note of what went wrong with the plan in Game 1 and they will be hoping that Kristaps Porzingis is able to overcome his illness and offer more minutes in this one.

You have to believe the Celtics will be more efficient with their three point shooting and they are in a historical spot where teams have bounced back.

Big home favourites have been on a really poor run in the Second Round of the NBA Playoffs, but teams playing at home after a loss are on a 23-13 run against the spread since the Bubble season. Hosts struggled in Game 2 of the Second Round last season, but are on a 12-4 run against the spread, while those that lost by less than 6 points have gone 17-6 against the spread in their next game.

The spread line is a little intimidating with Boston being asked to cover a higher line than Game 1, but they are expected to be better all around if they are in a position to level the Series. This time you have to believe better decisions will be taken by the team and the defending NBA Champions can show their composure by securing the victory and covering this mark on their way to levelling the Series.

Denver Nuggets @ Oklahoma City Thunder Game 2 Pick: The opening games of the Second Round have featured three straight upsets (in the three Series that have begun) and a single unit placed on the treble would have returned 125 units!! These have not only been upsets, but huge upsets with the outright victories pushing meaning home court has been stolen away by the lower Seeds.

The Number 1 Seed in the Western Conference Oklahoma City Thunder will have been really disappointed with the way they allowed Game 1 to slip away from them. They were not only facing a lower Seed at home, but one that had little rest after being forced to go the distance in the First Round and the Thunder will remember being dumped out unexpectedly in the Second Round of the Playoffs twelve months ago.

A reaction is expected, never mind needed, and the Thunder will be looking to make adjustments that gives them a chance of keeping control of Game 2. The biggest one has to be a way of clearing up the glass having been crushed on those numbers and ultimately paving the way for the upset.

Oklahoma City will also be expecting more out of the key support players around Shai Gilgeous-Alexander after a below par Game 1 effort from the likes of Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams and that can potentially turn the tide in this Series.

The Denver Nuggets will be feeling very good having recovered from a Game 7 First Round Series win over the LA Clippers to upset the Thunder in Game 1. Nikola Jokic had a huge game, but the Nuggets will believe they were nowhere their best and that more is to come from them in this Series.

They only made 31% of the three pointers launched, but it was the dominance on the glass that made the difference with 20 more boards than the Thunder. That is a huge advantage, especially when you note that the Nuggets had 21 Offensive Rebounds compared with Oklahoma City's 30 Defensive Rebounds, and that kind of margin could lead to an improbable 2-0 lead in the Series.

It may be asking too much considering the amount of effort needed and the Denver Nuggets could easily feel they have already done what they would have wanted by earning a split from the first two games. There is every chance the team could slump off a little bit and the Oklahoma City Thunder have shown all season that they can get things right and really pull away from any opponent they face.

This is a dangerous Series if the Nuggets continue playing as they are, but much like the Boston-New York Second Round Series, Game 2 could see the hosts bounce back as teams have historically done so when losing close games. The Oklahoma City Thunder were not a big favourite for no reason in Game 1 and they can make the adjustments to at least keep the Rebounding numbers much closer and that could be key in being able to exert their authority on Game 2 as they look to level things up before the two games to be played in Colorado.

And much like the other Series being played on the same night, the Oklahoma City Thunder are being asked to a cover a slightly higher line compared with Game 1 with the layers anticipating the fightback. The Thunder have work to do, but they finished with the best record in the Western Conference by some margin and can secure a strong win here before the Series flips home court around.

Thursday 8th May
You have to say it has been an upset filled Second Round through five games with the road team winning all of those contests.

And it isn't as if they have been pick 'em games as far as the layers are concerned and backing up that point is a five team accumulator of a single unit would have returned well over a thousand back.

Adding to the frustration was the total in Game 2 of the Cleveland Cavaliers-Indiana Pacers barely clearing the line set. Neither team was particularly good at shooting the ball, but sixty-four Free Throws were whistled by the officials and over fifty points were scored at the line and that is a huge number seeing as the second game of Tuesday night had thirty-two Free Throws attempted, never mind made.

Poor runs can happen in the post-season, but hopefully things have begun to turn around with the two Wednesday selections (although going against massive road underdogs feels less and less appealing after what has been seen in the last few days).

Golden State Warriors @ Minnesota Timberwolves Game 2 Pick: All eyes will turn to the status of Steph Curry who lasted just 13 minutes in Game 1 of this Second Round Series in the Western Conference. His hamstring issue is almost certainly going to be ruling him out of Game 2 and the limited rest time between the first five games in this Series makes it tough to believe Curry will be contributing a lot.

Despite that, and despite the fact that Golden State had to come through a Game 7 in the First Round against the Houston Rockets, the Warriors showed their veteran savvy by beating the Minnesota Timberwolves and completing a Game 1 sweep for the road teams through the Second Round Playoff Series being played.

Credit has to be given to Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green for remaining composed without Steph Curry and the Warriors found enough shooting to secure the win and home court advantage before returning home later this week.

There will be a lot of disappointment in the Minnesota camp- they started really poorly having failed to make a single three pointer in the first half and the Timberwolves were never able to test the Warriors with the team trailing wire to wire. Even when Curry left, there was never the intensity that the Timberwolves will have needed and they made just 5 three pointers all night and were held to a really poor 88 points.

None of the starters will feel they covered themselves well, but Game 2 offers the chance to recover and show that Minnesota can bounce back from setbacks. We have seen that in the Playoff run already and the Timberwolves are a much better three point shooting team than we saw in Game 1.

Of course they are under some pressure to perform with the team desperate to avoid falling into a 2-0 hole, but a stronger start should be key for the home team. That should fire up the crowd and teams have tended to bounce back from home defeats in the Second Round of the Playoff, especially when they are playing at home following the loss.

The spread has moved considerably in anticipation of Steph Curry missing out, but the Minnesota Timberwolves need to focus on their side of the court and knock down the open shots that were being missed. With an even average performance from the three point arc, the Timberwolves should recover and they can be backed to win and cover here.

Friday 9th May
Cleveland Cavaliers @ Indiana Pacers Game 3 Pick: The Second Round of the Playoffs have been wild and we have had just eight games played so far.

Home teams had lost six in a row to open the Second Round, but the really surprising aspect is how many of them have been beaten when holding huge leads within the games.

It was the turn of the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 2 as they entered the Fourth Quarter with a 14 point lead and were still 7 points ahead into the final ninety seconds. Yet somehow the Number 1 Seed in the Eastern Conference dropped to 0-2 in this Series and the short-handed Cavaliers have to find a way to pick themselves up from the floor.

Darius Garland's absence has really hurt and he is expected to miss Game 3, while both Evan Mobley and De'Andre Hunter were also out of the lineup in Game 2. Both have been upgraded to Questionable, but there is no guarantee either suit up with just a day of rest between Game 2 and Game 3, and that is also a tough spot for Donovan Mitchell who left something out on the court with his huge effort to try and help his team tie up this Series.

He had 48 points in the loss and there were signs of fatigue at the end of Game 2, which is a worry for Mitchell and the Cleveland Cavaliers. They will not have taken too much interest in the fact the officials feel they got a couple of late calls wrong as there is nothing that can be done now and Cleveland are already in a very tough spot as they head to Indiana for two games.

Last year the Indiana Pacers upset the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Semi Finals and they have all of the momentum after Tyrese Haliburton's three pointer to win Game 2 by a single point. That point gives Indiana a huge advantage in the Series and they are in a good spot considering how well recent Game 3 hosts have done.

Small home underdogs have also had a lot of success in recent seasons in the Second Round of the Playoffs and there is no doubting that all of the momentum looks to be with a healthy and deep Indiana rotation.

Backing the home team with the points does offer some appeal, but there has to be a respect for the Number 1 Seed who had looked the better team for much of the last game in the Series. Losing will have stung and the Cleveland Cavaliers have to find a way to turn things around, although that challenge is much more difficult on the road.

Instead of backing a side, the suggestion is to play the 'under' despite the really unfortunate way Game 2 surpassed the total set- the officials became very whistle happy and that led to a combined sixty-five Free Throws being taken and 51 points were scored this way. You have to believe those taking charge will be aware of those numbers, especailly the fact that Cleveland had more attempts in Game 2 than both teams combined in Game 1.

Tougher plays being allowed may just keep that scoring down and the 'under' has gone 13-4 in Game 3 in the last seventeen occasions when a team has had a 2-0 lead. The 'under' is 19-9 in this Game in the Second Round and this has been the play in the next game of a Second Round Series when the previous game was decided by less than 11 points.

That trend is 1-2 so far in 2025, but remains a strong play at 35-20-1 in the Second Round and this may be a game between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Indiana Pacers that have Defensive units come up on top with potential fatigue building up.

Oklahoma City Thunder @ Denver Nuggets Game 3 Pick: They will not have been happy with the performance in Game 1 and the Oklahoma City Thunder came out and showed why they are considered favourites to win the NBA Championship in their response in Game 2.

The Thunder came out and punched the 2023 Champions Denver Nuggets right in the mouth from the opening tip and they were relentless in their play. Putting together a Playoff best 87 first half points, the Thunder controlled the game from opening tip to final whistle and the crushing victory has levelled up the Series before it heads to Colorado for two games.

No one will be panicking in Denver- the Nuggets know a two point win like they had in Game 1 or a 43 point win secured by the Thunder equates to a game each and it will all be about making adjustments for when the Series hits their home.

Nikola Jokic was not able to have the same impact in the second game of the Series as the Oklahoma City Thunder changed things up to guard him, while the feeling will also be that he is not likely to be called for two Offensive Fouls at home. Those led to an early ejection, but that may not be bad news for the Nuggets with Game 2 out of hand and Jokic being able to wash that off and get ready for this important game.

Winning would just keep the pressure on the Oklahoma City Thunder and this Denver team are capable as they have shown in the post-season already. However, they will need more from the role players being back at home and the reality is that they will need some help from the Thunder.

Last year the Playoff pressure was too much for Oklahoma City to handle, but they showed in Game 2 that this is a confident team that will have grown from the experience and the layers are wary of the Number 1 Seed.

They are right to respect them and the Thunder have the capabilities of taking games away from opponents very, very quickly.

It is always more challenging on the road and the Thunder only beat the Memphis Grizzlies by a combined 8 points in their two road wins in the First Round. Playing in Denver is that much more challenging with the conditions in mind and the Nuggets did win three of their four home games with the LA Clippers in the First Round to move into this Series.

In recent Second Round Playoff history, teams that have been beaten in their previous game and then playing at home have been strong teams to back. However, those are only 1-2 against the spread in 2025 and Oklahoma City Thunder have all of the momentum having dominated to such an extent on Wednesday evening.

Road favourites of at least 5 points are 7-2-1 against the spread in the Second Round of the post-season since 2013 and the Thunder can regain home court advantage at their first attempt.

Saturday 10th May
Boston Celtics @ New York Knicks Game 3 Pick: Over the last couple of years, the Boston Celtics have walked with the mantra that this is a team that will live or die by the three point shot.

In 2024 they won the NBA Championship and Boston average 17 made threes at just shy of 37% hit rate in 2025 so their approach to Basketball has long felt justified.

Two games into the Second Round Series with the New York Knicks and there are now some huge questions being asked of the approach being taken by the team.

They are 2-0 down in the Series having had a couple of historical collapses- in both games the Boston Celtics have led by 20 points deep into the Third Quarter and failed to win either, becoming the first Playoff team to blow that margin of lead in consecutive post-season games.

Jayson Tatum described the second loss as 'inexcusable', especially as the pattern was eerily similar to the way Boston blew Game 1. They failed to hit a single Field Goal for a stretch of over eight minutes in the Fourth Quarter and ultimately that allowed the Knicks to hang around, rally and then score a couple of late Free Throws and make a big Defensive block to take a solid grip of the Series.

After a 15/60 effort from three point range in Game 1, Boston were 10/40 in Game 2 and the really big concern for the Celtics is the amount of open looks that were being missed. Failure to understand that and attempt to attack the rim meant the shooting was frigid at a key time for the second game in a row and there is a lot of pressure on the Celtics to avoid falling into a 0-3 hole.

For starters no NBA team have won a Series from 0-3 behind and the Boston Celtics will be well aware that none of the last five defending Champions have been past the Second Round the following year with four of those losing in this Round.

In saying all that, the Boston Celtics have to still be reminding themselves that they must have done something right to have 20 point leads in back to back games. Adjustments may be more to do with how they manage the game state when things do become a little icy from outside the three point arc and the Celtics will feel the Series can still be salvaged right now.

The New York Knicks have to be incredibly happy with how the first two games in the Series have gone and they will be hoping to have more consistent showings for the full four Quarters when playing two games at Madison Square Garden. Despite the obvious positives, the Knicks will know how quickly the outlook would change if they are not able to win at least one of the next two games at home and so there is some pressure on them too.

Players have stepped up at key times and the squad have come together to finally win some big games and that has to have boosted confidence.

Being at home will really help, but the Knicks will be aware that they still need to do more having been given considerable help by Boston to win both games.

With expectations being raised, it could be challenging for the Knicks to contain an angry Boston team that will be looking to remind everyone why they are Champions. You cannot expect the Celtics to continue to shoot as poorly from the three point arc as they have been, especially not with some of the open looks the team have been getting, and a Champions response is expected.

The Celtics are in a tough spot after the way things have developed in the Series, but they could become the latest road favourite of at least 5 points to display why the layers have so much faith in them. Assuming the team that finished with the second best record cannot keep blowing big leads, the Boston Celtics may get this Series moving back in their direction by taking Game 3 at The Garden.

Minnesota Timberwolves @ Golden State Warriors Game 3 Pick: They may have won Game 1 even after Steph Curry went down with an injury, but the Golden State Warriors are well aware of the challenges they face without their premier Offensive player. News has come out that Curry is set to miss at least the two games to be played at home in the Series with the hope he can suit up for Game 5, and so the Warriors have to find a way to score enough points to stay in the Series before he can return.

Game 1 was won thanks to the strong Defensive effort, along with the poor shooting produced by the Minnesota Timberwolves, but all of the Golden State fears came true in Game 2.

The Warriors only scored six fewer points in Game 2 compared with Game 1, but this time the Minnesota Timberwolves came out much stronger Offensively and took the game away from Golden State to level the Series. A much more efficient day shooting the three ball helped the Timberwolves as they got back to doing what they have for much of the season, and Minnesota will feel a lot better knowing Anthony Edwards avoided what looked like a Series-changing injury in the victory.

One day of rest between games will still be time to make adjustments, especially for the Golden State Warriors- they know that without Curry, the Timberwolves can put their strongest Defenders onto the likes of Jimmy Butler and Buddy Hield and that made it even more difficult for Golden State to generate enough points to remain competitive.

Draymond Green was frustrated with the officiating in Game 2, and also had a back and forth with a fan who had to be ejected, but the Warriors need one of their veterans to focus on the Basketball and keep the team ticking over until Steph Curry can return.

This is a big opportunity for the Timberwolves considering what they can do on the Offensive side of the court, but they have to stay focused. There is plenty of experience in the rotation after reaching the Western Conference Finals twelve months ago and Minnesota have the momentum.

Much like the Celtics and Thunder, Minnesota are favoured by the amount of points where road teams have had success in the Second Round of the Playoffs over the last twelve years. They have the momentum of the win in Game 2 and the Timberwolves have the shooters that can take this game away from an Offensively-challenged host.

You cannot dismiss how well teams who have lost their last game and then play at home have performed in the Second Round of the post-season, but the Timberwolves have a significant edge with Steph Curry missing from the home rotation and they can regain home court advantage in Game 3.

Sunday 11th May
Oklahoma City Thunder @ Denver Nuggets Game 4 Pick: They have contained Nikola Jokic as well as they would have wanted, but the Oklahoma City Thunder will be very disappointed that they are still 2-1 down in this Western Conference Second Round Series.

They played well in Game 3, although more can be expected from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, but it was not well enough and the defeat will have stung.

Bouncing back was the task when dropping Game 1 and that is the same challenge for the Thunder in Game 4 as they look to return home with the Series level. Falling 3-1 behind would have many of the Thunder players and fans thinking back twelve months when they were upset in this Round as the Number 1 Seed and so there is pressure on the top Seed.

Being at home has helped the role players have a bigger impact on Game 3 and that is encouraging for the Denver Nuggets as they bid for the upset. While Nikola Jokic will continue to attract the Defenders, it is up to the likes of Aaron Gordon and Michael Porter Jr to punish the Thunder by knocking down their shots.

Denver will know that the Oklahoma City Thunder are likely going to pose a much sterner test Offensively than they offered in Game 3 and especially with Gilgeous-Alexander to offer much more than he did. He has shown all season that he can recover from tough outings, as have the team, and the Thunder may be the latest big road favourite to produce a win.

They failed in that spot in Game 3, but Game 4 favourites have been on a very good run in the Second Round of the post-season.

It also should be noted that teams leading the Series going into Game 4 are on a 11-25-1 run against the spread and the top Seed is sure to be much more focused to turn this Series back around.

Last year, teams that had lost their previous game and then played on the road finished with an 8-4 record against the spread- teams in that spot are 2-0 against the spread this season and the Oklahoma City Thunder may keep that perfect record moving through another game.

Cleveland Cavaliers @ Indiana Pacers Game 4 Pick: After the way Game 2 ended, there was never going to be any let up from the Cleveland Cavaliers even when building a huge lead in Game 3. The top Seed could not afford to drop to 0-3 in the Second Round Series and Donovan Mitchell refused to let that happen.

Importantly for the Cavaliers, they had Darius Garland, Evan Mobley and De'Andre Hunter all back and contributing and it does feel the Series has shifted in favour of Cleveland even as they trail.

A day of rest between games is perhaps not ideal, but those three players look to have come out of Game 3 without picking up any new issues and that should mean Cleveland are looking to pick up from where they left off.

All of the adjustments have to be made by the Indiana Pacers- there is this sense that the big comeback in Game 2 has papered over some of the problems they are having. They have clearly been the poorer of the two teams over the last couple of games, and Indiana cannot expect for Cleveland to blow a big lead as they did in Game 2 with the depth in the rotation now back closer to where they would like.

Tyrese Haliburton has to do more if the Pacers are going to win this Series and all of the momentum is now against them.

As mentioned in the other game to be played on Sunday, teams leading a Series have not been very good in Game 4 in the Second Round, while the favourites have tended to come out strong in this spot.

Big road favourites have tended to come out strong in the Second Round of the post-season and the Cleveland Cavaliers should return home with this Series squared up.

Monday 12th May
Boston Celtics @ New York Knicks Game 4 Pick: Back to back poor shooting days cost the Boston Celtics as they fell into a 0-2 hole, but they are defending Champions and there has not been a sense of panic around the team. Instead the demands were to show better and the Celtics bounced back to crush the New York Knicks in Game 3 and avoid having to become the first NBA team to win a Series from 0-3 behind.

One win will have Boston feeling more settled, but they are back out at Madison Square Garden on Monday for Game 4 and there is still some pressure on the team.

Credit has to be given to the Coaching staff and the players for coming out in Game 3 and getting to the rim for easy two pointers rather than settling for threes from the opening tip. It has been a real feeling that Boston lost the first two games of this Series by failing to attack the basket and earning some easier points as the three pointers were failing to drop and that execution in Game 3 might have opened things up for the shooters.

Boston still chucked up 40 three pointers, but the players managed to hit 20 of them having been restricted to 25% from the distance prior to that.

They will need to make sure they avoid going through the stretches of misses that have been a feature of the first two games, but Boston will certainly take some confidence from the fact they have been dominant in all three games played.

This is something that the New York Knicks will have to change if they are going to make the Eastern Conference Finals- becoming the first team to win consecutive Playoff games when trailing by at least 20 points might have papered over some of the cracks that had the Knicks dropping into such a hole and the Game 3 defeat is a reminder of how much better they need to be to close out the defending Champions.

Karl-Anthony Towns is going to have to play through the pain having picked up a hand injury, while the New York Knicks just have to find a way to slow down the Celtics when they do get into a rhythm.

Big comebacks are memorable and will excite the fans, but the Knicks cannot keep getting themselves into a tough position within games. That is the challenge for the home team against an opponent that has matched up very well with New York all season.

Road favourites of at least 5 points have improved to 9-2-2 against the spread in the Second Round of the Playoffs since 2013 and the Boston Celtics should come out with plenty of confidence after finally holding onto a big lead earned.

As with the first two Game 4s being played, New York have to overcome a really big trend that has developed against teams leading a Series through three games.

Barring plenty of help from the Boston Celtics, that may be asking too much of this current New York Knicks team and the road team can level the Series up before returning home later this week.

Minnesota Timberwolves @ Golden State Warriors Game 4 Pick: A three pointer with less than 5 seconds remaining in Game 3 meant the game finished as a push when it came to the early lines handed out by Vegas. The Minnesota Timberwolves will not care less about that and the most important outcome for them on Saturday evening was making sure they had taken back home court advantage that had been lost in Game 1 of the Series.

The Golden State Warriors are trying to find a way to keep this Series alive until Steph Curry is able to return and they put a lot of emphasis on a physical Defensive performance.

Jimmy Butler and Jonathan Kuminga both had big Offensive performances, but the support around them was not good enough to make up for the absence of Curry. Some of the role players are going to have to do more after Golden State failed to hit 100 points for the third time in a row in the Series and the Minnesota Timberwolves have shown they can stand up to the physical test.

It will feel important for the Timberwolves to try and close this Series before Steph Curry can return and offer his team a huge boost in confidence.

He is expected to miss Game 4 and the hope is that Steph Curry can be back when the Series moves back to Minnesota, but the hope for the Warriors is that they are at 2-2 and not facing an elimination game. That may mean Curry wanting to push through and return, although that is not always ideal when dealing with a sore hamstring.

Before all that, the Warriors have to make the adjustments to try and knock Minnesota out of their stride, but it feels a tough ask.

The Timberwolves have shown they can win in a couple of different ways and the health of the team has to give them the advantage. Teams leading a Series have not been at their best in Game 4 of the Second Round, but the Timberwolves are another big road favourite and those teams are still getting on top in this Round.

Game 3 winners have produced a 14-6 record against the spread in Game 4 across the last twenty attempts and the Minnesota Timberwolves can move to the brink of reaching the Western Conference Finals for a second year in a row.
