NFL Week 14 Picks 2019 (December 5-9)

This is it. This is now the final stretch towards the PlayOffs and we have begun to see a number of teams being eliminated while others are chasing the opportunity to better their Seedings before Wild Card Weekend gets underway in one month from now.

Things really start to clear up going into December as far as the PlayOffs are concerned and teams are beginning to make their moves as far as the 2020 season is concerned. One of those is the Carolina Panthers who fired Ron Rivera as Head Coach and begin plans to decide who is going to take over in time for the next season.

It is a decision I think will also impact Cam Newton's future and the Quarter Back is about to head for surgery now that the Panthers season is all but over. He should be ready to compete by the time the new season officially opens and I would be surprised if Newton was to continue in Carolina.

Teams are going to be intrigued by him for sure, while fans of other NFL teams will be wondering if their team will follow the lead of Carolina and fire Head Coaches before 'Black Monday' that follows Week 17.

Washington are one team already searching for a new Head Coach, but I would not be surprised if as many as either other teams outside the Redskins and Panthers are also in the market. It might make Carolina's decision to begin the process now look very smart as they can do their due diligence on every Head Coach they want before the market becomes much tougher with more openings around.

In saying that I would be surprised if anyone committed to a Head Coaching role without waiting to see how things shake up at the end of the month too.

With four games left in the 2019 season it is also that time of the year when the ESPN PlayOff machine allows us to try and predict the remainder of the season.

A couple of Divisions look like they will be going down to the wire, although I did surprise myself when I still had the Philadelphia Eagles winning the NFC East despite going down to an awful defeat at the Miami Dolphins in Week 13.

Their game with Dallas is going to be pivotal to that outcome in Week 16, while I also had the Seattle Seahawks edging out the San Francisco 49ers for not only the NFC West Division title, but also for the Number 2 Seed in the Conference behind the New Orleans Saints.

I had the Ravens finishing with the Number 1 Seed in the AFC, but the surprise in that Conference was having the Oakland Raiders land in the final Wild Card spot despite their blow out loss to the Kansas City Chiefs last week.

This is the NFL though and things can change very quickly through the end of Week 14 with an upset or two changing the outlook completely.

My Top Five
1) Baltimore Ravens- they have taken over the Number 1 Seed in the AFC and just knocked off the San Francisco 49ers. No team is playing better Football right now, although John Harbaugh will be the first to tell you it doesn't matter when it comes to January.

2) New Orleans Saints- I have moved them up above the New England Patriots and they look to be the team to beat in the NFC. Can prove that point in Week 14 while maintaining control of the Number 1 Seed in the Conference.

3) San Francisco 49ers- they lost to the hottest team in the NFL, but very narrowly and I still think they are better than an improving Seattle Seahawks team. It is very close though.

4) New England Patriots- Offensively things are not going right for the Patriots, but I know Tom Brady and Bill Belichick will right those wrongs before the PlayOffs. However they might need to head back to Baltimore to get to the Super Bowl and that is going to be a big challenge for them.

5) Seattle Seahawks- they are improving and with Russell Wilson they can always make the big plays at the big moments. A huge Week 17 game against the 49ers will determine Seeding.

My Bottom Five
32) Cincinnati Bengals- did win for the first time in Week 13, but this is a bad team.

31) New York Giants- eight losses in a row, this season can't end quick enough for the fans. I expect they will be searching for a new Head Coach to take them into the 2020 season.

30) Atlanta Falcons- another team searching for a new Head Coach in the near future in my opinion.

29) Miami Dolphins- they should stick with Brian Flores who is overseeing a three win season out of a terrible roster. Good job by the Head Coach, but a bad team.

28 Washington Redskins- almost placed the New York Jets here, but the Redskins can't be given too much due even after beating the Carolina Panthers in Week 13.

Week 14 Picks
So Week 13 is in the books and we are down to the final four weeks of the 2019 season in the NFL.

No more Bye Weeks (unless you earn the top two Seedings in either Conference) means you have to begin to factor in some motivation levels with teams and players perhaps thinking of the future. It does cloud the air a little when searching through to make the right NFL plays, but keeping it firmly in mind should help.

Week 13 actually was the fourth winning week in a row for the NFL Picks which are clawing back from a poor start to the year. However it could have been a lot better after securing three wins from the Thanksgiving Day games.

I am not going to complain too much as I am happy enough putting another week in the books, but work is still to do to make sure I am going into the PlayOffs with a winning regular season behind me.
